The range of soil types: clay, volcanic, sandy loam and silt-clay-sediment churned by the river current. Pinot Noir. Zinfandel and Chardonnay fruit grows very well in the existing microclimates. A Little Russian River History

The Russian River Valley wine country evolved in the nineteenth century into the twentieth. Prohibition put the bung in the hole as many wineries closed under the pressure. Like the other Sonoma AVA’s – Dry Creek Valley and Alexander Valley, bootlegging and Sacramental wine was the market. Many wineries sold or went out of business. In the 1970’s , nearly 50 years later it was booming again. The industry has recovered and wine tours in Sonoma is a daily occurrence.
