GREEN VALLEY

Green Valley is one of the smallest and coolest appellations in Sonoma wine country collection. It is wrapped by the Russian River Valley and the towns of Occidental, Sebastopol, and Forestville help define it’s edges. The little town of Graton is at it’s heart and is a wonderful two horse, two block venue to grab a nice breakfast, lunch or dinner. This appellation is very small and probably one of the easier to understand as far as the wines being produced there. The predominant Goldridge soil is the king for Pinot Noir and winemakers seek it’s fruit.

This foggy region produces some distinction and flavorful fruit. Those that have become part of the fan club consider some wines here to be on the top of the list for Pinot Noir. This AVA is a important area for Sonoma County in the way that has a very different and but distinctive group of factors that form it’s terroir. The climate, soil and terrain ramp up the flavor profile and some very memorable vintages. The vineyards are beautiful; the ranches are beautiful with vines of old age and rambunctious youth. Houses like Dutton and Deloach are expansive and sought after by winemakers.
